One of the questions we receive most often at Pet Friendly House is, “What do you use to build and run your website?”

Many people assume websites like ours are built by teams of developers or backed by large companies. The reality is much simpler.

Like many website owners, I learned most of what I know through trial and error. Over the years I’ve watched countless YouTube tutorials, taken online courses, experimented with different software, and occasionally hired freelancers when I found myself stuck.

When I first started building websites, I made plenty of mistakes. I spent far too much time searching for the perfect theme, testing different hosting companies, and worrying about design details that ultimately didn’t matter nearly as much as publishing quality content.

Over the years I’ve tried numerous hosting providers, dozens of themes, and more plugins than I can count. Some lasted a few days. Some lasted a few months. A handful became permanent parts of our workflow.

The tools listed below are the ones that have stood the test of time for us.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that Pet Friendly House is not paid to recommend any of the companies or products mentioned in this article. These are simply the tools we currently use and the services we’ve had positive experiences with.

If you’re thinking about starting a pet website, pet blog, rescue organization website, or any type of animal-related online business, this article will give you a realistic look at what’s worked for us.

Elementor Pro: The Most Important Tool We Use

If WordPress is the foundation of our website, Elementor Pro is the framework that powers almost everything visitors see.

When I first started building websites, I spent countless hours searching for the perfect WordPress theme. Every theme looked fantastic in the demo. Then I’d install it and quickly discover limitations.

Maybe I wanted to change a layout. Maybe I wanted to move a section. Maybe the mobile version didn’t look right. No matter what theme I chose, I always seemed to run into restrictions.

Eventually I discovered Elementor.

Instead of adapting my website to fit a theme, I could build the website exactly the way I wanted.

That’s when things changed.

Today I can create custom pages, landing pages, category layouts, headers, footers, and mobile-specific designs without needing a developer every time I want to make a change.

While Elementor offers a free version, I strongly recommend the Pro version for anyone serious about building a website. The additional flexibility is worth the investment.

Some of the features we use regularly include:

Theme Builder

Header and Footer Builder

Dynamic Templates

Popup Builder

Mobile Design Controls

Forms and Integrations

Custom Layout Design

The biggest advantage is freedom.

If I decide tomorrow that I want to completely redesign a section of Pet Friendly House, I can usually do it myself.

Looking back, Elementor Pro is probably the single software purchase that has had the greatest impact on the growth and development of our website.

WPX Hosting: The Service I Recommend Most Often

If Elementor is the backbone of our design, WPX Hosting is the backbone of our infrastructure.

Hosting is one of those things most website owners don’t think much about until something goes wrong.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly when you find out whether your hosting company is any good.

Over the years I’ve used several hosting providers. Some were decent. Some were frustrating. Some seemed more interested in upselling services than solving problems.

For the past several years we’ve used WPX Hosting, and it’s become one of the easiest recommendations I can make.

The biggest reason is support.

WPX advertises incredibly fast support response times, often claiming responses in under a minute through live chat.

In my experience, they’ve consistently delivered.

Many of the support requests I’ve submitted over the years involved problems I created myself. Plugin conflicts, broken settings, caching issues, updates gone wrong—you name it.

Every time I’ve reached out, the support team has responded quickly and helped solve the problem.

As someone who occasionally breaks things while trying to improve them, that’s incredibly valuable.

The second reason is reliability.

Our website is available 24 hours a day to readers around the world. Downtime isn’t something we want to worry about, and WPX has proven to be extremely reliable.

They’re not the cheapest hosting company you’ll find online, but in my experience the combination of speed, reliability, and customer support more than justifies the cost.

If I were launching a brand-new pet website tomorrow, WPX would be one of my first purchases.

Website: https://elementor.com/

What I Would Do If I Were Starting Again Today

One advantage of running websites for years is that you eventually learn what matters and what doesn’t.

If I were starting Pet Friendly House from scratch today, I would keep things much simpler than I did originally.

I would:

Register a domain name.

Purchase reliable hosting. – https://elementor.com/

Install WordPress. – https://wordpress.org/

Install Elementor Pro. – https://elementor.com/

Add Rank Math or Yoast SEO. – https://rankmath.com/ or https://yoast.com/

Install Wordfence. – https://www.wordfence.com/

Set up Google Analytics.

Publish content consistently.

What I would not do is spend weeks obsessing over logos, fonts, colours, themes, or tiny design details.

Looking back, I spent far too much time trying to make the website perfect before I had enough content published.

The reality is that content is what drives traffic.

A simple website with excellent content will almost always outperform a beautiful website with very little content.

Many new website owners focus on design first and content second.

I would reverse that order.

Build a clean website, make sure it loads quickly, and then focus your energy on creating useful content that helps your audience.

That’s ultimately what helped Pet Friendly House grow.

Fiverr: One of the Best Investments You Can Make

One lesson I’ve learned over the years is that sometimes it’s cheaper to hire an expert than spend an entire weekend trying to solve a problem yourself.

Fiverr has saved me countless hours.

One recent example involved problems with our mega menu and mobile navigation. I spent time trying to figure it out myself before deciding to hire someone.

Within about an hour the issue was fixed, and the freelancer even added some custom CSS improvements that made the site look better than before.

Whether you need help with WordPress, Elementor, coding, logo design, graphics, SEO, or troubleshooting technical problems, Fiverr can be an excellent resource.

Sometimes the smartest thing a website owner can do is recognize when it’s time to bring in someone who already knows the answer.

Website: https://www.fiverr.com/

In closing

Building a successful pet website is easier today than it was when I started.

The tools are better. Hosting is faster. Educational resources are everywhere. You can learn almost anything through YouTube, online courses, communities, and AI tools.

The biggest challenge isn’t finding the perfect plugin or the perfect theme.

The biggest challenge is getting started and consistently publishing helpful content.

At Pet Friendly House, WordPress, Elementor Pro, and WPX Hosting form the foundation of everything we do. The other tools simply help us work more efficiently.

If you’re considering building a pet website of your own, don’t wait until everything is perfect. Publish your first article, learn as you go, and improve things over time.

That’s exactly how Pet Friendly House started.

Putting Our Digital Experience to Work

Understanding how websites, search engines, artificial intelligence and online marketing work also helps us recognize when those technologies are being used to mislead consumers.

Recently, we investigated suspicious online pet retailers and created an entirely fictional pet business to demonstrate just how convincing an online store can appear. Using AI, we built everything from product photography and customer testimonials to a company history, business owners and a physical storefront.

More importantly, we showed readers how to investigate these claims for themselves.

Popular Dating Websites and Apps for Dog & Cat Lovers

We all love our pets. They’re the ideal companions for enjoying long weekend walks, sharing meals, and snuggling at night. They enhance our lives immeasurably and provide us with joy and cuddles. It’s impossible to be truly lonely with pets in the house. Despite that, some of us also seek companions with fewer tails. And since everything’s available on the Internet, lots of us look for love there too.

The well-known apps like Tinder and OKCupid feature plenty of candidates with furbabies in their profile pictures and some of them even allow users to filter based on pet-friendliness. But what if you didn’t even have to do that? What if the sites only showed potential matches who had already expressed their love of animals and were looking for similar matches? We’ve promised our pets forever homes. Your pets are your family and when you’re looking to build a life — or even just a weekend — with somebody new, it’s important to make sure that you’ll be compatible in all the ways that matter and there’s no doubt that your pets matter!

Lisa, a California engineer, keeper of a minor menagerie, and dating-site dynamo, exclaimed “THERE ARE DATING SITES FOR PET LOVERS?” when she first became aware of this underserved niche. Excitement soon turned to concern, though. “On second thought, is it going to be full of guys who take their dogs everywhere and think it’s cute their dog ‘loves’ me so much it won’t stop humping my leg but then shrug and say they don’t know how to get him to stop doing that.” This is an excellent reminder that just as we lead with our best foot forward on these sites, we probably have to make sure to show our pets in a positive light as well when we’re checking compatibility. The bottom line, though, is that it’s about finding matches that work and working these pet-friendly sites and apps is a really good way to bring love into your life.

Dig is the Dog Person’s Dating App and is launching in major cities across the country, often with in-person events and parties. It’s been recognized by TechCrunch as one of the top 100 startups of the year and as a finalist for the Purina Pet Care Innovation Prize. The app not only allows you to find love with other dog lovers but suggests dog-friendly date ideas near you, educates you with daily tips and tricks on dog care and dog life, and alerts you to daily dog-related deals. It is designed to make sure that both you and your dog are compatible with any match; you can even search profiles by dog size. The app is both sophisticated and user-friendly and dog people should rejoice at the chance to add more dogs and more dog people to their contact lists.

DateMyPet.com seems to acknowledge that sometimes pets are even more interesting than their people! This site is primarily built for romantic connections but there are options where you can look for platonic friends for both you and your furry friends. It is part of media conglomerate Venntro, Inc. with a worldwide reach in the dating site market. Membership, a profile listing, and search capabilities are free but a paid upgrade is required for messaging and chat capabilities. The site also offers advice, tips, and articles of interest to single pet lovers.

PetPeopleMeet.com is a community dedicated to helping pet people find other pet people for dating and relationships. It is part of People Media, which is owned by the iconic Match.com and has significant market share in the world of niche dating sites. It is free to join, create a profile, and browse but a paid membership is required to participate in what most of the site has to offer, such as messaging, live chats, and extended profiles. The success stories posted here are certainly encouraging.

It’s a tough world out there and as much comfort and companionship as we get from our furry friends, many of us want to also find human companions for an afternoon play date, for a lifetime, or for anything in between. Since our pets are such a huge part of our lives, we want to spend time with people with the same priorities. Instead of swiping endlessly and hoping that the puppy in the photo isn’t just a prop, why not try looking at some sites and apps dedicated to pet people? After all, your animals are a priority and you want to make sure that a match works on all levels of your life.

Sharing photos of dogs on Social Media, these days, is almost a competitive sport. While we all appreciate a well-placed, cute, dog snap, how do you know if you are simply oversharing?

The first step is to observe your dog’s behavior. Does Rover roll his eyes every time you get your phone out? Are you not getting enough cheese from your Chihuahua? Is your Poodle sick of posing? Could there be too many frills on Fifi?

How do you know when you have crossed the line? It is, after all, one of the signs of being a crazy dog person.

Take our quick quiz to find out if you are taking too many shots of your four-legged friend.

Doggone it! You are oversharing and well on your way to being THAT crazy dog person. You could tone it down a little. Take your dog out for a walk and a play and leave the phone at home. Precious memories of being with your dog don’t all need to be documented.

Mostly B’s

Sounds like you have cracked the good dog-life balance

Mostly C’s

You could post a few more shots without losing your street cred. Share your dog just a little more.

When it is not funny

Sharing photos of your dog can be heartwarming, and even make someone’s day. There are some photos, however, that should not be shared.

Photos or posts of frightened pets. Signs of distress in your pet can include ears held back, wide eyes with visible whites, tail tucked and bodies tense and crouched. It is not worth stressing out your do to get that perfect insta shot. Rather wait to get a natural shot of your dog in its happy place.

Dogs and kids. Take great care and make sure that you respect your dog and your kid when taking these kinds of photos. Never put your child in danger of a dog bite to get that great shot. Dogs are animals and can be unpredictable, especially when stressed or annoyed. Examples of inappropriate child and dog shots are: holding a baby right in a dog’s face, young children lying, standing or sitting on top of dogs, a baby reaching into the dog’s food bowl. It is not the dog’s fault if something happens.

Hopefully you have established that you are not overdoing it and always posting appropriately. Keep it up and let your dog have its day!

Tips & Tricks for Creating an Instagram Page for Your Dog

Dogs bring a lot of joy into people’s lives, so it is only right that those people would want to share it with others. It is extremely common to see Instagram accounts dedicated to pets, especially dogs. These accounts help to document the dog’s life and to tell their story to a world that love animals and the happiness they bring. However, not every single account goes viral and get thousands upon thousands of followers, but there are a few things that they all do and have in common to make it to the top.

Nowadays when people get a puppy or adopt their dog, they want to set up an Instagram account for them, which is easy to do. All you need is to download the app onto your mobile phone, sign up with an email address or Facebook account and then you can create a username and a password. Pick something that relates to your dog specifically, so be sure to include their name! Now you’re all set up and ready to get creative with your content. Here are some tips and tricks to help you get started with showing your dog off to the world.

Create a bio

When people choose to follow a dog account, they want to know a little bit about them, such as their name, age, gender or if they have any siblings. Something else that is great to add in is how they came into your life, especially if it was through adoption. Do they have a physical disability that you want to highlight and show how they overcame it? The bio is the perfect place to mention this. Their backstory will help to make them unique to their followers and make them seem more relatable as well. Don’t forget to add a cute picture for their bio as well to make them easily recognisable.

Choose a theme

Scrolling through the images on another dog account can make you realise that there is something the images have in common and it is that they have a theme. Some dog accounts go for a style that is rural and rugged, which works especially well if they are a breed such as a huskie or German shepherd, which has earthy tones in their coats. People will keep this theme consistent by posting photos of them in the great outdoors or running through the trees. Then there are other accounts that want to keep things fresh with bright colors in the background and objects such as balloons, blankets and toys. There are a number of filters on Instagram and choosing to use the same one each time can help to keep the theme constant throughout all your images.

Keep it high quality and consistent

There is nothing worse than looking at blurry images and trying to make out what’s going on. To avoid this, make sure you are producing high quality images and edit your videos before posting. When starting out and trying to build a following it is best to focus on the content you are putting on your dog’s Instagram page to make a good impression. You want people to enjoy the crystal-clear photos that show off your dog’s personality, as well as their shiny and luscious coat. Luckily, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on a photographer’s camera because most mobile phones have great cameras already built into them, you just need to know how to work them. Practice makes perfect and it will help you to decide what settings you like the best and how you want to edit your photos before posting them.

Another thing to do if you are looking to build a following quickly is to post consistently but add variety too. No one wants to see the same photo over and over again, so switch up the composition and the setting behind your dog. Another good tip is to post once or twice a day. That way you aren’t bombarding people with spam, but they also won’t forget about you anytime soon.

Engage with the community

Don’t just wait for your followers to find you, go out there and explore the vast community of dogs on Instagram. Start off by liking other people’s images and photos of their dogs, writing little comments about how cute they are or how you think they would get along with your dog. Not only will they see the comment, but their followers will too, and they might be inclined to check out your content and give you a follow. Just make sure that you aren’t spamming people as Instagram has a limit on how much you can like and comment within an hour before your account is put on hold.

Show them off!

The whole reason to create an Instagram account for your dog is to show them off, so make sure you keep your camera or mobile close to capture those funny and adorable moments to share with the world. There are so many accounts that have blossomed because their owners showed off their personality and how they are different to other dogs. Throwbacks to the puppy days are great to throw in every now and then to remind yourself and others of how far your dog has come and how sweet they used to be as well. They are guaranteed to bring in the engagement from followers!

The main thing to remember when creating an Instagram account for your dog is to have fun with it. Document the good and bad times along the way so that you always have something to look back on with fondness.

Is there anything better than showing off your beloved pooch on social media for the world to see? Not only does it show how much you love them, but it allows others to see their fun quirks, amazing personalities, and how sweet they look when they’re falling asleep. It isn’t uncommon for people to create Instagram accounts for their dogs, with some even having thousands upon thousands of followers who are wanting to see the sweet snaps.

Get started with hashtags

All the famous accounts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook had to start somewhere and it took time to amass the following they have, but there is one thing that helped them out. Hashtags. When used correctly hashtags can allow your image of your dog to be viewed by a much wider audience who are interested in that particular hashtag. Something that is interesting to note is that the hashtag #dog has been used on 193 million posts on Instagram, so there is definitely some competition on there. If you are looking to add some hashtags to images of your animal on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, then make sure to include some of these:

#puppy – for when you want to show off how sweet they are.

#dogsofinstagram – this is a great hashtag that can be used for a dog of any age or breed on Instagram.

#dogsitting – this hashtag can be used by the people looking after dogs and capturing the moment for all to see.

#doglover – to show people just how much you love canines and to engage with other likeminded people.

#dogoftheday – do you have a number of dogs in your household? Why not dedicate a day to each one to share the love?

#Puppylove – is there a better way to show off one of the sweetest stages of a dog’s life? We think not.

Something else that would be great to include in your hashtags in the breed of dog that you own. Not only will people who love that particular breed find your photo, but it will also allow you to see what other people are posting and see the hashtags they use to get their photos noticed.

Hashtag trends

While the hashtags mentioned above are quite general and can be used for any image or video, there are some that are much more specific. These are trends within the online dog community that show off some of the more interesting and funny sides to dogs, which are definitely worth taking a look at, or taking part in.

The #funnydog is a really popular hashtag across social media. Does your dog ever do anything that causes you to laugh so much that your stomach hurts and tears fall from your eyes? Dogs can do some of the funniest things and a lot of the time these hilarious canines will go viral. This hashtag is often used to help others smile with joy and to show how entertaining dogs are when they want to be. Just a quick look on twitter will show people retweeting funny dog videos such as one that shows a ‘Beware of the Dog’ sign before panning to show a sweet canine showing his teeth in a grin with his eyes closed. A funny dog can brighten anyone’s day.

One thing that is bound to make your heart feel warm and fuzzy is taking a look at the #pupsquad hashtag. These images and videos will often show puppies running around and playing with their parents, snuggling up to one another when it’s time for a nap, or even just getting them altogether for a hilarious photo shoot. Show off how great everyone gets along with this fun hashtag!

Ever look at your pooch and wonder how they could be comfortable in some of the strange positions they lie in? Now you can what other people’s dogs do with the #howisthatcomfortable hashtag, which shows dogs in positions that only contortionists would be able to achieve. The funny thing is that the dogs don’t seem fazed by it at all and will often fall asleep or play with their toys at the same time. Not only do dogs like to sleep a lot, they also like to bark at their owners when they aren’t getting their own way. The hashtag #barkinthepark will show dogs getting overexcited to play with their ball at the park, or even throwing a tantrum when they don’t want to leave yet.

How to get people to follow you

Now that you know the hashtags to use and follow, how do you get people to follow you? Easy, make sure that you are active on whatever platform you choose to show off your dog. Posting videos and images everyday while using the hashtags will send your content to a wide audience that is interested in content like yours. A great idea is to also include industry hashtags. These are the ones that are also used by corporations, charities and business that are in the dog industry, whether they are selling food or promoting adoption. For example, the hashtag #adoptdontshop is used by nearly everyone that has adopted a dog to spread awareness and give animals a second chance to have an amazing life.

Using these hashtags will allow your content to be seen by those actively browsing those terms on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and in turn you will find that your following will begin to increase bit by bit. Just be sure to keep posting those cute and funny snaps to catch their attention!

Do You Take Too Many Pictures of Your Cat?

Cat in a bag? *click* Cat on the table? *click* Cat with a poofy tail * click* Cat playing in a box * click* Cat on a windowsill? *click* Cat playing with a toy? *click* Cat playing with something that’s not a toy? * click*

We all think our cats are adorable and, of course, we’re right about that. We also think that the rest of the world wants to see our cats being adorable and, of course, we’re right about that too. Not only is it fun to watch our cats and to watch other people’s cats, but it’s been scientifically proven to be good for us. Researchers from Loma Linda University and the University of Maryland Medical Center have concluded that watching twenty minutes of funny videos, like the cat videos that dominate the Internet, reduces the stress hormone cortisol and increases heart health.

So now that we’ve established that there actually are excellent reasons to capture your cat’s best moves and share them with other cat lovers around the globe, some of us might wonder where to draw the line. Cats love attention and lots of them like to pose for the camera but is it possible to have too much of a good thing?

How many cat pictures are too many? That’s a question for the ages, literally. Drawings of domesticated cats have been found in 10,000-year-old caves, cats were well represented in ancient Egyptian art, cats are featured in medieval paintings and etchings, and some of the earliest silent movies (Boxing Cats and The Sick Kitten) featured our feline friends. It’s fair to say that for as long as we’ve been owned by cats, we’ve been chronicling the cuteness of these creatures.

And it doesn’t seem as if we’re going to stop any time soon. A study by MiMedia revealed, to nobody’s surprise, that the typical cat owner takes four to five pictures of his or her cat every day and that nearly half of cat owners are close to running out of storage space on their phones due to the deluge of cat pictures. Today’s smartphones have more computing power than the first rocketship to land on the moon and we are filling them up with our favorite felines!

But it’s all good because the world wide web loves these cat photos, too. CNN estimated in 2015 that there were approximately six and a half billion cat pictures on the Internet and the numbers climb every day. As much as we love taking and posting photographs of our cats, we also love looking at other people’s cat pictures — a study commissioned by Mars Petcare U.S., Inc. and conducted by OnePoll shows that on average, the typical cat owner and web surfer looks at 725 cat pictures and videos every year and “likes” almost 400 cat-related posts. That comes out to just over two pictures and one video per day. Ask yourself if you’re making your numbers here! If not, what are you waiting for?

We like taking pictures of our cats even more than we like taking pictures of ourselves. Mobile network Three found that more than twice as many cat pictures than selfies are shared every day; nearly four million cat pictures and videos are uploaded as compared to one and a half million selfies. Some of these photos are even uploaded to dedicated accounts as over 350,000 cat owners have created Twitter, Facebook, or other photo-sharing platforms to host their pictures and clips. We have always known that our cats have identities and personalities of their own so creating social media accounts in their own names is a very logical choice to celebrate them! Dressing our cats or using them as photo props is nothing new either; photo pioneer Harry Pointer was taking meme-worthy pictures of cats in costumes and silly poses as far back as the 1870s.

Cats in motion are favorites as well. The first cat video was uploaded to YouTube by co-founder Steve Chen in 2005 when he commemorated his cat Pyjamas playing with a rope. In the ten years that followed, more than two million more cat videos were posted to YouTube. And they don’t go unnoticed; these videos average over 12,000 views each! That’s a lot of looking at cats. Sixteen percent of the views in the “Pets and Animals” category are cat videos. It’s clear that a lot of us believe that there’s no such thing as too much kitty content on the Internet and we’re doing our best to clog the intertubes with cats.

So clearly, we like to take pictures of our cats. And we’re not alone since most cat owners cherish new photos of their precious babies – at least 44% of people owned by cats have framed photographs of those cats. The Museum of the Moving Image’s “How Cats Took Over the Internet” exhibit claims that three percent of Internet traffic around the world is cat-related. Whether you take more or less than the reported average of five cat pictures every day, you can rest assured that somewhere, someone is taking even more photographs than you do. And you can also rest assured that the Internet is big enough to hold all the cat pictures and videos. It seems that there’s no such thing as too many pictures of your kitty so teach those furry little dumplings not to run away from a flash and post those pictures as your contribution to the cat content in cyberspace.

Taking Better Pictures of Your Dog with Your Phone: 15 Easy Tips That Work

Who doesn’t love having a wonderful picture of their pet, right? Today, with high resolution cameras on the phones that nearly everyone carries, it can be very easy to snap a once-in-a-lifetime picture of your dog.

Most people have a smartphone with them just about all the time. Whether you know it or not, the camera in your phone has a rather advanced camera system. If your dog is often with you, too, that means you should have countless opportunities to capture some amazing images even if you’re not a professional photographer.

Here are some tips to help you take fabulous pictures of your best friend.

Timing

Any good photographer will tell you that taking great pictures is all about timing. Sometimes you can take fifty pictures and they’re all duds. But if you’re in the right place at the right time, you can take the best picture in the world. Is it luck? Maybe. But it’s also about being ready with your camera and taking lots of pictures of your dog. The more time you spend with your dog, paying attention to what he’s doing, taking pictures of him, the more likely you are to get that perfect shot. And, with digital photography, taking lots of pictures doesn’t cost you anything the way that film photography once did. If you want to print photos, wait to print only the best ones.

Patience

The perfect picture doesn’t always happen on a schedule. Sometimes you have to wait for it. This is especially true if you’re taking pictures of puppies. Puppies are always on the move, changing position and expression. Whenever you’re dealing with such playful subjects, it pays to be patient. Spend time with your dog or puppy so you get to know what they might do in each situation. Let your subject forget you’re there so they can be natural. Sometimes it helps to keep your distance. You can zoom in a little and crop later.

Awareness

Of course you should always be aware of what your dog is doing when you’re taking pictures but it’s also important to be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to your environment. Are there other dogs playing nearby? Are there friendly children? Is there an interesting physical setting that you could let your dog use for a pose? Your dog could interact with any of these elements either on the spur of the moment or with a little help from you to make a fantastic image.

Vantage point

When you’re taking pictures of your dog, think about the perspective of the picture. What would the picture look like if you were at your dog’s level? If you were higher? Or lower? Sometimes changing your position can completely change the emotional feel of the picture.

Know your dog

Knowing your dog – or any subject you’re photographing – is always important. If you know that your dog is great at catching frisbees, for example, this would be perfect for trying to capture a great photo. This is a trick that you can ask your dog to repeat again and again while you try to get the perfect picture – and your dog will probably be happy to oblige. You can do this with any behavior or skill that your dog loves to do.

Free apps let your be creative

You can enhance your photos with some of the free apps or take them into Chatgpt.

Layout is another popular app. It’s good for posting multiple images in a layout like a collage. It’s good for sharing pics to Instagram and it’s easy to apply filters.

Using these tips can help you take photos of your dog that people will love. As with anything, practice makes perfect so take lots of pictures. Compare your images from month to month and you should see improvement in your results. Cameras are always becoming more advanced, including camera phones. More and more apps are available to help you all the time. But the most important thing is just spending time with your dog and snapping those pictures!

Best Apps for Dog Owners: Training, Health, Travel & Pet Care

Smartphones have transformed nearly every aspect of our lives, including how we care for our pets. From tracking medical records and finding pet-friendly hotels to scheduling dog walkers and accessing veterinary advice, there seems to be an app for almost every aspect of dog ownership.

While no app can replace responsible pet care, the right tools can make life easier, help you stay organized, and provide valuable resources when you need them most.

Whether you’re a new dog owner or a seasoned pet parent, these are some of the most useful types of apps available today and how they can help improve life for both you and your dog.

Why Dog Owners Use Pet Apps

Modern pet apps can help with a variety of tasks, including:

Training and behavior management

Veterinary consultations

Medication reminders

Health record storage

Pet sitting and boarding

Dog walking services

Pet-friendly travel planning

Emergency preparedness

Activity tracking

Rather than replacing traditional pet care, these apps serve as convenient tools that help owners stay informed and organized.

Best Dog Training Apps

Training is one of the most important responsibilities of dog ownership.

Many dog training apps provide step-by-step guidance for teaching:

Basic obedience

Recall commands

Leash manners

Crate training

Trick training

Behavioral problem-solving

What to Look For

Quality training apps often include:

Video demonstrations

Daily training plans

Progress tracking

Positive reinforcement techniques

Age-specific recommendations

Training apps can be particularly helpful for first-time dog owners who want additional support between classes or training sessions.

Remember

No app can replace consistency and hands-on practice. The most successful training still happens through regular interaction between you and your dog.

Apps for Dog Walking and Pet Sitting

Life gets busy, and many owners occasionally need help caring for their pets.

Dog walking and pet sitting platforms connect pet owners with individuals who provide services such as:

Daily dog walks

Drop-in visits

Overnight pet sitting

Boarding

Daycare

These services can be particularly useful for:

Busy professionals

Frequent travelers

Pet owners recovering from illness or injury

Families with demanding schedules

Before hiring anyone, always review ratings, references, and service details carefully.

Veterinary Telehealth Apps

One of the fastest-growing areas in pet technology is veterinary telemedicine.

Many telehealth platforms allow pet owners to:

Consult with licensed veterinarians

Discuss symptoms

Receive general advice

Determine whether emergency care is needed

Follow up after procedures

While telehealth cannot replace in-person examinations for many medical issues, it can provide peace of mind and guidance when questions arise.

Common concerns discussed through telehealth services include:

Skin problems

Digestive issues

Behavioral questions

Minor injuries

Medication concerns

Always seek emergency veterinary care immediately for serious injuries or life-threatening situations.

Pet Health Tracking Apps

Keeping track of veterinary information can become challenging over the course of a dog’s life.

Health tracking apps help organize important records such as:

Vaccinations

Microchip information

Veterinary appointments

Medications

Allergies

Weight history

Having medical information readily available can be especially useful during emergencies, travel, or visits to a new veterinarian.

Many apps also send reminders when vaccinations, medications, or wellness exams are due.

Medication Reminder Apps

Dogs taking long-term medications often require consistent schedules.

Medication reminder apps can help owners remember:

Daily medications

Flea and tick treatments

Heartworm prevention

Prescription refills

Follow-up appointments

Missing doses can reduce treatment effectiveness, making reminder tools valuable for managing chronic conditions.

GPS and Location Tracking Apps

Many pet owners worry about their dogs becoming lost.

GPS-enabled pet tracking systems allow owners to monitor their dog’s location in real time when paired with compatible tracking devices.

Features may include:

Live location tracking

Safe zone alerts

Activity monitoring

Escape notifications

These systems can provide additional security for adventurous dogs that spend time outdoors.

GPS trackers are particularly popular among:

Hiking enthusiasts

Rural pet owners

Owners of escape-prone dogs

Pet-Friendly Travel Apps

Traveling with a dog requires additional planning.

Pet travel apps can help owners locate:

Pet-friendly hotels

Restaurants with dog-friendly patios

Dog parks

Beaches

Hiking trails

Campgrounds

These tools can save time and reduce stress when planning vacations or road trips.

Many apps also provide reviews from fellow pet owners, helping you find accommodations that genuinely welcome dogs.

Dog Activity and Fitness Apps

Exercise is essential for maintaining a dog’s physical and mental health.

Fitness-focused pet apps may track:

Daily walks

Distance traveled

Calories burned

Activity levels

Exercise goals

Some apps work alongside wearable devices designed specifically for pets.

Tracking activity can be especially helpful for:

Weight loss programs

Senior dogs

Sporting breeds

Dogs recovering from injury

Emergency Preparedness Apps

Every dog owner should have a plan for emergencies.

Emergency-focused apps may provide access to:

Nearby veterinary hospitals

Poison control information

First aid guidance

Emergency contacts

Medical records

Having this information readily available can be invaluable during stressful situations.

Features Worth Looking For

Not every pet app is worth downloading.

When evaluating an app, consider:

Ease of Use

A simple, intuitive design makes an app more useful on a daily basis.

Positive Reviews

Look for apps with strong user feedback and regular updates.

Data Security

Apps storing medical information should use appropriate security measures.

Customer Support

Reliable support can be important when problems arise.

Regular Updates

Outdated apps may become unreliable or stop functioning properly over time.

Are Paid Apps Worth It?

Some pet apps are free, while others require subscriptions.

Whether a paid app is worthwhile depends on:

Features offered

Frequency of use

Individual needs

Quality of service

For example, a simple reminder app may not justify a monthly fee, while a comprehensive telehealth service could provide significant value for some pet owners.

Always compare features before subscribing.

Can Apps Replace Professional Advice?

No.

Apps can be helpful tools, but they should not replace:

Veterinary care

Professional dog training

Emergency medical treatment

Behavioral consultations

Think of pet apps as resources that complement responsible pet ownership rather than replace professional expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best type of app for new dog owners?

Training and health management apps are often the most useful for first-time dog owners.

Are pet telehealth apps reliable?

Many connect users with licensed veterinarians and can provide valuable guidance, although they cannot replace hands-on examinations when necessary.

Do dog fitness apps actually help?

They can be useful for tracking exercise, weight management goals, and activity levels.

Are GPS trackers worth it?

For owners of escape-prone dogs or those who frequently hike or travel, GPS tracking systems can provide additional peace of mind.

How many pet apps do I really need?

Most owners benefit from only a few well-chosen apps rather than downloading dozens of specialized tools.

Final Thoughts

Technology continues to change the way we care for our pets. From training support and health tracking to travel planning and veterinary consultations, today’s dog owners have access to tools that would have seemed impossible just a few years ago.

The best apps won’t replace quality veterinary care, consistent training, or time spent with your dog, but they can make everyday pet ownership more convenient and organized. By choosing apps that address your specific needs, you can spend less time managing logistics and more time enjoying life with your canine companion.
