Years at sea have left this Newfoundland with an impressive collection of maps, navigational instruments and stories that become slightly less believable each time he tells them.
Seated at the head of a polished walnut table, the captain surveys his candlelit dining room beneath storm-darkened windows. Celestial globes, maritime curiosities and an old model ship fill the cabinets behind him, while a mysterious wooden box remains firmly locked.
The black pumpkins were added for Halloween. Everything else, he insists, was acquired during perfectly legitimate voyages.
The Viking’s Scandinavian Retreat
After a long season of exploration, conquest and refusing to ask for directions, this Irish Wolfhound is ready for a quiet evening at home.
His Scandinavian living room is restrained and beautifully considered: pale oak floors, limewashed walls, a monumental stone fireplace and one enormous arched window overlooking the misty autumn landscape. A weathered shield rests beside his carved chair, while a raven keeps watch from across the room.
The pumpkins are understated, the candles are burning and the helmet has no horns—because this household takes both history and interior design seriously.
Dracula’s Gothic Entrance
Count Dracula does not simply answer the door. He makes an entrance while standing in his own entrance.
Framed by pointed stone arches and enormous carved doors, this impeccably dressed Doberman welcomes guests into a mansion glowing with chandeliers and candlelight. His extended paw is gracious. His expression is charming. Whether accepting the invitation is a good idea remains open to debate.

Something is amiss in this elegant London townhouse.
Perhaps it is the unexplained light beneath the library door. Perhaps it is the sound that came from the staircase several minutes ago. Or perhaps Sherlock simply finds a perfectly quiet evening deeply suspicious.
Standing in profile against rain-streaked windows, the Airedale considers the evidence with one paw behind his back and a curved pipe raised thoughtfully toward his muzzle. The black pumpkins, shadowed panelling and moonlit rooftops create an appropriately mysterious setting.
The case will undoubtedly be solved before breakfast.

This witch has no interest in bubbling green cauldrons or dusty shelves filled with plastic spiders. Her kitchen is considerably more refined.
Matte-black cabinetry, richly veined stone and aged brass create a dramatic backdrop for bundles of drying herbs, apothecary jars and copper pots. At the centre island, an elegant Afghan Hound in layers of black velvet carefully measures ingredients into a heavy stone mortar.
A large black cat watches from the counter with the expression of someone who has already read the recipe and noticed an important omission.
Dinner will be served at eight. Questions about the ingredients will not be encouraged.
Frankenstein’s Industrial Loft
The doctor wanted to create life. His dog was more interested in creating the perfect loft.
Inside a converted brick warehouse, steel-framed windows rise above weathered leather, blackened metal and an enormous concrete fireplace. Vintage laboratory glassware and old electrical instruments have been arranged as sculptural objects rather than scattered around like props.
Frankenstein’s monster, played by a broad-shouldered Boxer in a beautifully tailored charcoal suit, stands beside a long worktable beneath a dramatic pendant light. His posture is imposing, but his expression suggests he would much rather discuss the room’s original factory flooring than chase villagers through the night.

The Ghost of the Country Manor
The old manor has been empty for decades—although someone continues to light the candles.
Faded floral wallpaper, cracked plaster and linen-covered furniture give the drawing room a quiet, timeworn beauty. Moonlight filters through tall windows as a pale Saluki in a flowing Victorian gown moves almost silently across the floor.
She is slightly translucent, as any respectable ghost should be, yet remains perfectly composed. A forgotten portrait hangs above the fireplace, dried hydrangeas fill an antique urn and a silver tea service waits for guests who never arrive.
Apparently, even the afterlife has standards.
The Mummy’s Desert-Modern Home
After several thousand years in a tomb, the mummy was ready for more natural light.
His warm desert-modern home combines pale plaster walls, sculptural adobe forms, low walnut furniture and windows overlooking a dramatic landscape of stone and sand. Woven textiles, dried grasses and softly glowing lanterns add warmth without disturbing the calm.
At the centre of the room, a slender Pharaoh Hound wrapped in beautifully aged linen reclines on a built-in bench as though the entire house had been designed around him—which it probably was.
The ancient ceramic vessels are authentic. The bowl of Halloween candy is comparatively recent.
The Headless Horseman’s Equestrian Estate
Autumn arrives early at this grand equestrian property, where maple trees burn orange against black fencing and mist settles over the paddocks each evening.
Inside the stable courtyard, lanterns illuminate stone walls, polished tack and enormous arrangements of branches and deep-red leaves. A powerful black Great Dane wears the Horseman’s dark riding coat and high leather boots while holding a carved pumpkin beneath one arm in place of the traditional missing head.
His horse waits nearby, fully saddled and increasingly impatient.
The estate looks magnificent. The practicalities of riding without a head have not yet been resolved.
The Masked Host’s Halloween Dinner
Nobody knows the identity of the host, although several guests believe they recognize the tail.
A magnificent Dalmatian stands at the head of a long table in an extravagant midnight-blue dining room, dressed in a perfectly cut black dinner jacket and an ornate Venetian mask. Hundreds of candles flicker beneath a contemporary crystal chandelier, while black dahlias, dark fruit and sculptural pumpkins form a dramatic centrepiece.
Every place has been carefully set. The silver has been polished. The first course is about to arrive.
Removing one’s mask before dessert is strictly forbidden.
When Dogs Take Over Halloween Decorating
These homes may be wildly different, but their owners share one important belief: Halloween deserves more than disposable decorations and an inflatable ghost on the lawn.
Each dog has created a world around the character—from the Viking’s quiet Nordic retreat to the pirate’s room of collected treasures and Dracula’s unforgettable entrance. The costumes make the idea funny, but the remarkable interiors are what make the images worth exploring.
Realistically, most dogs would be perfectly satisfied with a comfortable bed and unattended bowl of treats. Given unlimited decorating budgets, however, we would like to believe they might produce something exactly like this.
